My Poem

I’d like to write a poem

A poem that rhymes ok

But when I try, I fail my task and miserably say

Why can’t I write a poem

The one that’s meant to rhyme?

Why does everyone succeed

And I always must run and hide

I look into some dictionaries for a word to rhyme

But all I find are irrelevant

And makes no sense half the time

People read my poems

And say ‘this doesn’t rhyme’

I blankly look them in the eye

And say it doesn’t have to!

I feel ashamed I have to say

For I love rhyming poems.

One expects, one to rhyme

For it sounds real nice and pleasant

When I finish writing this

I will read this back to thee

And you can say

If it rhymes, or pretend as if it did!
